I am very concerned at the news that Poundland is facing collapse, leaving workers in Liverpool Garston facing uncertainty and worried for their jobs, alongside thousands of other Poundland workers across the country.
Despite repeated attempts by Usdaw Union to engage with the owners Gordon Brothers, these approaches appear to have been ignored. If Poundland enters administration, up to 11,000 workers could lose their jobs.
I’ve signed a letter, alongside parliamentary colleagues, to the Minister for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade asking him to intervene. I am also in contact with USDAW and am pleased to see Prime Minister Andy Burnham is ready to support workers.
I have heard from concerned Poundland staff in my constituency and will continue to support them through this.
