I met with Johnny Santer on Conference Sunday alongside Tom Minks and his family to promote my Multi-Storey Car Parks (Safety) Bill, known as Gabe’s Law, and discuss next steps. Johnny’s son Gabriel tragically lost his life falling from Hanover St Car Park 6 years ago on Saturday. Tom Minks is a young man who jumped from a city centre car park but survived the fall, which has left him with life-altering injuries. His family shared his story with me.

Both families are amongst a growing number backing Gabe’s Law, which would raise the height of fencing barriers at the top of car parks from 1.1 metres to 2.7 metres and see multi-storeys staffed 24/7. You may have seen the Gabe’s Law digital billboards around the city centre during conference. We spoke with Liam Thorp from the Liverpool Echo and visited Hanover St to see the height of existing barrier fencing, which you can see in the video above.
