I joined the CWU protest at Labour Conference about BT’s plans to close their Liverpool offices, which would see over 600 BT Business staff, Openreach workers, 999 call handlers and specialised relay service providers for deaf customers have their jobs relocated outside the city. They would be expected to commute to Manchester, Leeds and in some cases Bangor in Wales, which is completely untenable.

I’ve backed the staff alongside city-region colleagues and spoken with Ministers to try and get the decision reversed. This would be a disaster for the city and, as you can hear from staff in the video above, would see jobs leave Liverpool that would never return. I’m continuing to back their campaign and I’m fighting to keep these quality, skilled jobs here on Merseyside.
