There is fantastic news from Woolton Picture House who announced that, with the help of a mystery donor, they this week exceeded their target and have secured a 101-year lease on the building. That means not only will the Picture House celebrate it’s 100th birthday in 2027 it will hit it’s 200th anniversary in 2127.

Over 2500 people donated to the fund, 16,000 people bought tickets, popcorn and merchandise and last week a mystery donor bought the building, giving Woolton Picture House CIC a 101-year lease at a peppercorn rent of £19.27 a year to celebrate the year it first opened its doors to the public.

As the team explained to me when I visited the plan isn’t just to show new and classic films but to also offer the building as a community space. I know it will be a great asset in Woolton and I am very pleased that the campaign was successful. Woolton Picture House will once more be a vibrant part of the local community and I look forward to their continued success.
