I met with the Trussell Trust in Parliament to hear how food bank usage is changing nationally and in Liverpool Garston, where 2,507 emergency food parcels were provided in by Trussel Trust alone 2025, including 950 for children.

Nationally food bank usage has dropped by 12% since 2024, though locally we have stayed roughly the same with a slight 1% increase. This highlights the deep scars left by 14 years of Tory austerity and mismanagement of the economy, with 3 million emergency food parcels distributed across the country in 2023. This fell to 2.6 million in 2025. This fall is in part due to reductions in inflation.

Food bank usage is still too high across the country but the fall in figures nationally is a good sign that Labour’s economic policies are starting to make a difference in people’s day to day lives.
