This week I attended the annual Garston Partners Conference, held as usual at Partnership For Learning and sponsored by South Liverpool Homes (SLH). The Conference is always a great day that brings together charities, community groups and organisations from across Speke and Garston to share thoughts and ideas, helping to promote joint working between different groups that can help solve problems and create opportunities in the area.
Particularly interesting this year was an emphasis on youth voices and problems facing young people today, including a very sobering presentation about Ketamine usage. It was good to speak to some young people at the table I was on and hear their thoughts on what is a growing problem nationally.
There were other sessions throughout the day on topics like community cohesion, individual frailty in older people and the Cradle To Career initiative locally. I will be reaching out to some of these partners to hear more about how they’re supporting local people in these areas and to see how I can help get them the support they need.
As you can hear in the video above this is a great day every year that promotes the very best in partnership working in Speke and Garston, something not always seen in other areas and that we can be very proud of here.
