The Labour Government has launched the world’s most ambitious consultation on online usage for under-16s to explore measures to keep children safe online, from social media to gaming sites. It’s a subject I’ve received more emails and letters about in the last few months than anything else. I know many parents are concerned about what social media is doing to their children’s concentration, sleep and mental health.
2023’s Online Safety Act brought in strong protections but more needs to be done as technology rapidly evolves. The consultation will help decide what future protections will look like.
The consultation is open now and will run until May 16th and will consider minimum social media ages, restriction of AI chatbots and overnight curfews amongst other measures. You can read more and have your say at: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/growinguponline/
