Maria Eagle MP Brushwood Care Home campaign 2020

Last week saw Liverpool’s Labour Council secure the future of Brushwood Care Home in Speke by extending their management contract after care provider Bloomcare announced it would not be renewing its contract to run the site. As Council Leader Liam Robinson pointed out, this is against a backdrop of Reform Party plans to close care homes across the county, including eight in neighbouring Lancashire. Reform have had to bow to months of public pressure there and scrap these plans, though only on economic grounds. Liverpool Labour has instead stepped up to ensure care homes are protected.

I was pleased to support Brushwood’s building and helped to open the facility in 2019. When the original care provider, Shaw Healthcare, pulled out in 2020 I led a campaign that successfully saved Brushwood. I hope to be visiting in the near future to help celebrate this welcome news.
