Maria Eagle MP A Strong Voice in Tough Times
I recently attended Gateacre School where I was invited to speak to Sixth Form students about my time at Oxford University. I was pleased to hear that some of them will be visiting Oxford alongside their Head, Mr Jamil, who is also an Oxford graduate.
The questions ranged from what is needed to get into an Oxbridge college and what questions are asked on the entrance exam to what it’s like to study there and how to manage the workload. I also spoke about attending as the daughter of working parents who had not attended university themselves.
A good university education opens many opportunities in life and every child, from whatever their background, should aspire to pursue their education to the extent of their talent. Oxbridge schools are for all academic talent to aspire to so I am glad the Gateacre is encouraging this aspiration.
I hope that their visit to Oxford will be of interest and look forward to returning to school in the next few weeks for a tour and to meet with the Head and Trust.
